last night Cowboy Dan and I had six kids under our roof
yes, on a school night
no, no one’s birthday
yes, ALL were family
all were fed, bathed, read to, prayed with and bedded down by nine
we were in bed by ten
all had gone VERY WELL
until midnight ..
and then
no, it wasn’t any of the six children
but Cowboy Dan
he tossed, he turned
flipped and flopped..
I shhhhhhhhhed
and said in a STRONG whisper voice
“is there something wrong?!!! PLEASE be still”
(I would like to suggest that loving your spouse in spite of interrupted sleep be added to the vow ceremony at weddings)
but it was too late
once again I found myself wide awake.
I lay for a while pondering our upcoming events planned on the farm..
with my “to-do” list whirling in my head
becoming very anxious
I decided I might as well be productive
so I got up
went to the living room
began writing my “to do” list
when I began to hear these words ringing in my head
“Be anxious for NOTHING but by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” Phil 4:6&7
I began to meditate on these verses
and how VERY applicable they were to me in that moment
“Be anxious for NOTHING”~not my to-do list, the uncertainties that we are facing as we are transitioning from career to home, homeschooling, a new business venture, not my friends who are troubled and/or sick and heavy on my heart..
NOTHING means NOTHING.
“but by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God”~ so I began to pray and thank the Lord for His flawless sovereignty. I thanked Him for the amazing things He is doing in our home and lives of those I cherish. And then finally in this prayer I surrendered the worries, disappointments, frustrations and emotions of the day.
“and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding shall keep you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”~ and you know what??
I went back to bed
and slept like all six of the babies in our home…
peacefully.
