well..well..well

Sunday mornin’
Cowboy Dan
our two little rascals
MIL (remember that’s short for mother-in-law)
POP
and me
headed south for our annual
beach camping trip

and yes
we were aware of looming tropical storm Debby

but
we were hoping
and Tucker praying without ceasing
that she would decide to head west
as we headed south

she didn’t.

let me insert a quick note here…
about 45 minutes into our journey south
Cowboy Dan says to me:

“know what my gut tells me?
(making circular motions with his hand around his stomach while he spoke)

me:
“no, what??”

Cowboy Dan:
“remember that camping trip
we went on years ago
 in spite of the rain
and how it rained the whole time?”

me:
“yes, I remember”

Cowboy Dan:
“we are about to experience round two”

me:
“let’s not borrow trouble.”

within a half hour of that
brief conversation with my love

MIL calls..

“well y’all might as well turn around
the campground just called
they are under an emergency evacuation”

now this is where I take just a moment
to let you know

#1. what an ORDEAL it is for Cowboy Dan to orchestrate “the vacation feeding/watering plan” for our family farm
#2.  what an ordeal it is for me to talk Cowboy Dan  through his anxiety of leaving others in charge
(everybody take a deep breath..hold 3 seconds..okay now let’s all exhale nice and sllllooooowwwww………………………………………………………………………whew everybody okay??”
#3 you mommas out there understand the washing/packing/cleaning/packing/packing and did I mention packing process for a CAMPING trip for a family of FOUR for the beach for a week!!
and finally
#4 the “are we close to the beach yet?! are we almost there? can we see the water yet? I’m ready to go swimming RIGHT nOW!!! MOM did you get my net??? GOSH I hope we catch a CRAB!!!!?!@?!@?”
RIDIULOUSLY EXCITED 4 and six year old children in our back seat!!!

so.

I hung up the phone
told Cowboy Dan

“that was your mother.
she said to turn around
we cannot go to the beach
the storm is coming.”

without hesitation
left blinker on
Cowboy Dan turns to head towards home…

I said
“we can’t go home.
we have to go somewhere
pull over and let’s think for a moment..”

to be continued………
