small business owner
nope.
that one never made my list
teacher, mother, wife of a rock star, drummer
were some of the things I thought I might be when I grew up
never even entertained the idea of becoming a small business owner
even through the years that our family ran a cafe
or the years that my mother ran a general store
did I ever dream of one day running
much less owning a business
and yet.
that’s exactly what we’re doing.
five months in
and we’re still trying to wrap my minds around the whole idea
poor ol’ Cowboy Dan
in retail?!
he’d much rather be riding the range somewhere out in never, never-land
but until he finds a sponsor to foot the bill for his imaginary travels
his trail stops at the local feed & seed…..
life really is stranger than fiction.
feed, garden seeds, mulch, fertilizer, pesticides
FLOWERS, FERNS, FLOWERS, FERNS
did I mention
FLOWERS & FERNS
i HEART the FLOWERS & FERNS
actually
it turns out that I am enjoying much more of the whole experience than I ever thought I would
top of the chart:
meeting & talking with our customers
a large majority are
seasoned souls, maws & paws
many have been around the block a time or two to say the least
from WWII to Vietnam
The Great Depression
life with power
life without
before gardening was optional
all walks of life
from Florida to Italy to little ol’ Mentone :O)
many share their stories
others, not yet
several have a scheduled day to plant
others still waiting on the weather
some have family favorites:
Clemson Spineless or Cowhorn okra seed?
Crookneck or Straight-neck squash ?
what’s your FAV tomato?
some heart Peaches-N-Cream corn,
others won’t settle for anything less than royalty
Silver or Golden Queen
as many that offer their suggestions
there are three times that many who have questions like:
pole beans or bush beans?
how do you pronounce “zucchini”?
(Today I learned there’s apparently more than one way …
kinda like you say “po-ta-to”
I say “po-ta-to”)
some wanting a spray to kill everything except grass
others want KILLZALL (FYI-this will kill it ALL-thus the name)
Do we have all the answers??
Heavens, no.
But we’re learning…
a little something each and every day
one thing that hasn’t made my
“I LOVE IT” list
#1 book keeping.
I STINK at book keeping. REALLY. I do.
I want to get better
but until then
I’ll thank God daily for our gracious bankers &
let the paid professionals handle my mishaps ;/
a few things still on the “to do” / WISH list
#1 vamp up our antique corner,
(always lookin’ for an excuse to go junkin’)
#2 still looking for a yummy, LOCAL honey supplier
#3 looking for some neat, old (affordable) jars for candy…
#4 we need an old display cabinet (5-6 ft long) for our growing knife collection
so
if you haven’t made it by yet…
