It’s early and no one else in the house is awake yet so I thought I’d take a minute and bring you up to speed because not everyone is on Facebook.

Here are some things in no particular order:

The boys have two days left of school and I’m trying to get all of the things done I had planned to do over the last five months like vacuum the car and clean out the fridge.

We have had two litters of piglets born in two weeks and they’re adorable.  I capture the farm mostly through Instagram stories.  Are you on Instagram? If so, follow us to see what’s new on the farm.

We have an infant in the house.  I have lots of things I want to tell you and will when I can but for now, I will tell you that caring for an infant in our forties is harder and sweeter in lots and lots of ways.  Harder in that my face is puffier longer with less sleep but sweeter in that I don’t care that I’m not sleeping because we know babies don’t keep and I don’t want to miss a thing.  I can tell you this little guy is beyond precious and the fingerprints of God are ALL over his birth story and days thus far.  I can tell you his thighs are getting chubbier each day which begs the question: “Why aren’t chubby thighs as precious on adults?” ..because if that were the case I’d likely be considered adorable.

We brought home a puppy the same we week brought home the baby  (#dumbidea)

We’ve had a couple of teens visit our home since my last post.  Fostering is tricky.  Fostering teens is sticky and tricky. Fostering teens with limited sleep because the said infant is not something we feel is a “best yes” for us.  Fostering is a learning process.  More times than not you don’t know how something will work until you try. All the while we’re learning and discerning and moving forward as best we know how.

In other news,  are you tuning in for our Thursday night Live on Facebook?  If not, you should.  It’s a fun place for us to get together and connect.  I’m sharing real stories, real life, real faith there much more often than I am here because well-it’s easier and fits the pace of life better right now.  So, if you’re on Facebook LIKE + FOLLOW Karmen Smith, Blessings Beyond the Barnyard  Tune is Thursdays @8:30 PM central.

My boys are starting to look like young men and I can’t deal.  Mostly I can’t deal with the body odor but truly I pray, “come, Lord Jesus, come”  and before puberty would be awesome!

A recent highlight-I went kayaking with three of my dear friends and wondered the whole time why I have waited 40 years to go kayaking with friends.  GO KAYAKING with friends!  It’s refreshing, hilarious and good for the soul.

Summer goal: camp more
