some visit therapist
others medicate
my therapy
takes various forms
pending the season
winter: organize
spring: mow
summer: swim
fall: split wood
it’s honest
refreshing
work.
growing up we didn’t have electric heat
we had a wood heater
gathering kindling
stacking wood
filling the wheelbarrow
and bringing in a load
before dark
was a standard chore for me and the sisters
Cowboy Dan and I added a fireplace
a few years back
so the familiar chores
of
cutting
splitting
and hauling wood
is back on our to do list
and I’m thankful
because
in my opinion there is NO cozier warmth
than that of wood heat
add:
the smell
+
the crackling sounds
+
and
finally
the warmth
=a cure for what ails you
and why tonight I am
thankful#17: wood therapy
