thankful#29: Ward and June

Leave it to Beaver
had Ward and June

sisters and I
have
Daddy-O and Precious

Our family of five
lived on the mountain not in town
in a 2 bedroom, one bath trailer
that Daddy-O transformed
with each new addition
first a porch
then a kitchen
a den
and finally
new bedrooms by our teen years

sisters and I
had it made in the shade
as far as we were concerned

supper around the table
discussing the events of each day
prayers and Bible stories with Precious each night

never a doubt of our parents
total devotion
to us
Daddy-O attended beauty pageants
endured LOUD, DRAMATIC slumber parties

Precious made cakes and biscuits from scratch
mended and occasionally made us clothes
usually town on Saturdays with Aunt Suz and her girls

never a need unmet
five days a week
Daddy-O worked hard on a farm
Precious worked hard at home
both in bands
sometimes together
sometimes not
singing on the weekend
most of my life

they model commitment
rarely EVER argue in front of us
enjoy each other
and still go on weekly dates

are they flawless?
no.

they are sinful by nature
just like the rest of us

they have accepted God’s Amazing grace
extend it towards each other daily
forgiving
loving
staying true.

and forever
