Wednesday is our day off

or at least it’s supposed to be

it’s a good thing we started yesterday’s “day off” work

with a breakfast for champions!

fresh eggs, home grown sausage, biscuits & syrup!

our homeschool morning full of doubles +1 facts, The Foot Book, rhyming and  more

was wrapped up by 11

so we headed to town to CELEBRATE RO!

with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! lunch and an afternoon of fun in the sun

RO is my squishy nephew

and Tuck’s BFF,

after having driven an hour out of town Tuesday to buy RO’s sister, Kate,  a guinea pig

photo-205

and all the guinea pig paraphernalia (WOW there’s lots of RODENT gear to choose from) for her birthday

I would ONLY  BUY a RODENT! for my niece)

Cowboy Dan & I wanted to spend some time with Ro

and to even the score just a bit

we checked him out of school

Cowboy Dan had an appointment

to trim some horses for a client

photo-206

Ro’s good with horses

photo-204

but the woods were calling

and the sun was shining

so I held the horses while Love trimmed

the rascals ran to the woods

and played in the creek

and laid in the shade

photo-207

played “I dare ya” and belly laughed

after that

we met the plant guy at the store to get a fresh load of vegetable plants

then dropped Cowboy Dan off at the church

to run the after school, GOOD NEWS CLUB bus route

the rascals and I had an hour

so we zipped over to the animal adoption center

adopted a couple of cats

zipped  back to the store

to introduce the cats to their new home

Precious (mother) met us there to pick up Ro

the rascals and I went back to the church to pick up Cowboy Dan

realizing it was time for the rascals Wed night discipleship class

so we left them at church

ran home to meet the in-laws

who were bringing us a dog that had shown up at their house unclaimed, un-named

photo-203

with “no room in the inn” at their house

we opted to take him

we leashed him

I took him around for a quick meet and greet

photo-202

gathering food, water & hay for his doghouse

while Cowboy Dan set up his new pen

what to call our new cute little friend??

“Scooter”?? “Buster” ??

we’d just finished getting him all set up

walked to the barn to water the rabbits

ring. ring. ring.

Love got a call from inlaw

“You aren’t going to believe this? There’s a poster on a pole in our yard. Missing. Going to call. Will call you right back.”

and he did

and it was

our little “Scooter” or “Buster” turned out to be “Cowboy” (YES! I’m for real. That’s his REAL name.”)

“Cowboy”  had escaped after a bath

the owner was THRILLED he’d been found

what else could we do?

we’d have wanted someone to return ours

so just shy of an hour and a half upon arrival

“Cowboy” rode off into the sunset

back to his home in town

the rascals never met him

they got home right after he left

just as well

and so

to wind down from our “day off”

I cooked a quick supper

remember the commercial?

“Hamburger Helper makes a great meal..” throw in a can of corn and WALAH!

and finally declared that our grand finale  to a RELAXING “day off”

would be a Blockbuster movie that had arrived in the mail

“Where the Red Fern Grows” I exclaimed

Cowboy Dan protested “to sad to suit me”

My rebuttal “it’s a classic. a good one for the boys.”

with a perplexed look

full of hesitation

Cowboy Dan pressed play to start the movie

I joined the boys a little over half way through

after cleaning the kitchen

Just in time

to watch the boy FALL ON THE AX! and DIE

what was I thinking? are the boys ready for this level of drama??

we talked our way through the next scene

where the

GRANDPA FALLS DOWN A CLIFF!

Tuck covers his eyes and says “I don’t think I want to watch this anymore”

we consoled him with: it’s just a movie”

insert just a dash of happy with the scene where the boy wins the coon hunt competition

next. enter: MOUNTAIN LION SCENE where DAN the COON DOG DIES!

followed up by a GRIEVED TO DEATH LITTLE ANN! BOTH DOGS DIE!

I didn’t remember that part!!

Tuck, my weeping,

no. WAILING! son looked at us like:

“why on earth would you pick such a movie?!”

whom I COULD NOT CONSOLE BECAUSE I WAS FIGHTING THE UGLY CRY!!!!!!!!!!

again….WHAT WAS I THINKING?!
classic or NOT

Tuck nor I will be watching that one for at least another 20 years!!

whew

I don’t know how your “day off” looks

but after yesterday

I’m taking another “day off” to recover
