can you define it?
Cowboy Dan and I had an interesting chat this morning over coffee..
me:
“can you define piddlin’?”
Cowboy Dan:
“sure. it’s an art. The ability to do something productive that’s not on a “to-do list”
this part cracked me up.
he said in his
oh so sincere tone
“most people don’t have this ability”
he went on…
( I didn’t interrupt-because when he speaks you should listen)
Cowboy Dan:
“piddlin’ is how I ‘ve built this place..
one piddlin’ effort at a time”
“our chicken coop
the restructured stalls in the barn
the pig trap door
the cross fence..
see.? all of those began with piddlin'”
Me:
“so if “it” -meaning any project that may begin on a “to-do list” is disqualified as piddlin’?”
Cowboy Dan:
“yep. “To-do” list keep people wound tight.”
he said:
“piddlin’ and whittlin’
go hand-in-hand..just think about my family…what do they do when they get together?”
(which is funny that he said that in that moment because when he said “whittlin'”
Pop -which is Cowboy Dan’s daddy and Pop’s brothers immediately came to my mind)
me:
” they whittle.”
Cowboy Dan:
“yep. and piddle.”
with a proud sincere look
he said:
“they are master piddlers”
y’all see why I am CRAZY in love with this man?!!
his simple ways and philosophies
keep this SPASTIC.
absent minded
crazy country girl
in check.
Cowboy Dan ended our conversation with:
“piddlin’-it’s a lifestyle.”
