things “of old”
antique
primitive
vintage
have ALWAYS caught my eye
whether
furniture
decor
or lifestyle
I prefer
“seasoned” verses new
any day of the week
probably ONE MORE
reason why I’m crazy
about Cowboy Dan
and our little Tuck
they are the
“old souls” of our unit
my love
for the
“good ole’ days”
was kindled
this past Friday
as we visited the
historic little town
of Springville, Alabama
for the annual
Homestead Hollow Festival
I LOVE HOMESTEAD HOLLOW!
look it up
and visit if you can
it’s WONDERFUL
PARTICULARLY in the fall
while at the festival
I added a few
“BRING BACKs”
to my list
of things
I’d like to see
brought back
and made common practice again
#10 BRING BACK the BEEKEEPERS
Who doesn’t love fresh honey? It’s one of those things that’s GOOD
and GOOD FOR YOU
#9 BRING BACK the LYE SOAP MAKERS and RATTLE SNAKE HATS
lye soap–three ingredients: water, lye (which is ash) and fat (some prefer pig others prefer deer fat) NO ARTIFICIAL dyes or harsh perfumes=BETTER FOR YOU
#8 BRING BACK PATRIOTISM
I LOVED talking with Mr. Rattlesnake Hat Wearer-FLAG DISPLAYER because he was PASSIONATE about making soap! An entrepreneur! Isn’t that what AMERICA was founded on!
#7 BRING BACK LOG CABINS
They’re really all we need. (just think how much less there would be to clean!)
#6 BRING BACK SKILLED MEN & WOMEN
Other than GOOGLE skills! Now I LOVE computers as much as anybody…but we are raising a generation of young men and women who without GOOGLE would be LOST..!
I HEART broom makers, basket weavers, apple pie bakers and blacksmiths!
#5 BRING BACK OLD WOODEN TOYS
We have trained the boys to look for toys that are ALL metal OR SOLID wood..
We came home with a wooden sword and a fishing pole
I consider it money “well spent”
#4 BRING BACK BEANS and GREENS
Both GOOD and GOOD FOR YOU!
#3 BRING BACK OUTDOOR PLAY!
Nobody had allergies when we were growing up. In the summer we chasing fireflies until dark and in the winter we bundled up tromping through the woods! Today we’re better for it!
#2 BRING BACK QUALITY TIME with FAMILY and FRIENDS
and LAST BUT
CERTAINLY NOT LEAST
#1 BRING BACK COMMON SENSE!
I agree Karmen. I used to love going to the crafts section of Dollywood (back in the old days when it was Silver Dollar City) and watch the blacksmiths and other craftsmen. I would trade for 100 or 150 years ago in a minute.
maybe we should consider starting our own Silver Dollar City :O)
