“OUR TRIP TO THE CIRCUS”

barnum-and-bailey-circus1

nice title huh?

or it should’ve been. but it wasn’t -not even close.

what kid doesn’t dream of going to THE CIRCUS!?

we could hardly wait! I was probably 9ish making the sisters 5ish and 3ish

add two cousins -7ish & 6ish

nice ages for the circus right.? or should’ve been.

Our crew of 5 in our station wagon

Momma’s sister + her husband +kids in their car .

My uncle rarely got in on family events others than those that involved hearty potluck dinners-so to have him join us for the circus outing was a big deal!

The excitement could hardly be contained within the car walls as we all drove an hour and a half out of town to see the

BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS!!!!!!! (did you hear that in the circus announcer tone? I hope so.)

The circus was probably great!

Surely with the tigers, tightropes -tents and all

but to be honest I really don’t remember.

All I remember about the BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS was the incredible-never ending-wish Jesus would hurry up and come back  journey home from the circus.

See.? After the circus-that I hoped I enjoyed and thanked my parents for…

Uncle and Aunt were in the car in front of our car.  Patiently waiting for a break in the sea of brake lights.  When at last my uncle jetted his car out into the abyss of red -daddy, momma, the sisters and I lost sight of him within seconds.

things went blurry right …..here.  Last I recall daddy had a tight 10 and 2 grip on the steering wheel…Momma was gritting her teeth, subtly smiling as she assured us “it’s fine girls–we’ll catch up in  just a bit.”

keep in mind this was way before the day of worrying if your kids were buckled, cell phones and/or GPS -Instead for us it was the hay day of  directionally challenged  DADDYs  DON’T STOP FOR DIRECTIONS.

For the next- I don’t know- FOREVER ! we were lost. in the dark-in Hunstville.

I remember crying and the sisters crying and daddy saying things that were not rated “G”

and finally praying myself  to sleep in the floor board -waking up –what seemed like days later- finally at home sweet home.

The sisters and I still laugh about and counsel each other  as needed – through the night of the circus.

I haven’t been to the circus since.  And I haven’t wanted to…and I wouldn’t ….except that a sweet, precious man that loves Cowboy Dan  and our boys has given us tickets to the circus.

So- much to my dismay we will be going to the circus tonight.  Please join me in prayer as I ask Jesus to help me ENJOY the circus for the sake of my children.  Keep your hand upon our car Lord ! guide each and every turn. To and from. amen.

<3 K

ps-my daddy is not invited.  I have a GPS and the circus is not in Huntsville.
