Once upon a time
in a tiny little town
in a not so tiny school
two teachers met.
one tall-the other not so much
both curly headed, sassy, and bold-sharing a crazy love for the Lord
The two soon found out they had much more than lesson plans in common and became fast, forever-friends-
kindred spirits
very matter-of-fact
knowing exactly how to take or interpret the other..
a mutual longing for motherhood-both in a barren season
daily the two chit-chatted
encouraging the other in the Lord, sharing family drama, work and the like
each one respecting the other to the utter most..
as the seasons came and went
their friendship deepened
sharing as much joy as sorrow…enduring hardship and heartbreak in each of their church families
crying together-made it not hurt quite as bad
Together they read The Purpose Driven Life
learning together that life’s not about us
Growing through the tough stuff like infertility and loss…
when one day after one had lost -again
she received a card in the mail from the other…
the words she read were kind and gracious and oozing with sympathy..so much that the reader thought her eyes were playing tricks on her as the enclosed gift fell to the floor..
as the reader reached to pick up the check that had fallen from the card
she sat down and began to sob.
the gift was too generous
too kind. too much.
so much that the receiver called out to her spouse and said “you must take me to see her, now.”
together they rode in sobbing silence to the friend’s house
knock, knock at the door
the gracious friend opened with tears in her eyes
& the two embraced for a really long time
crying together, hurting together, loving the other more than either had words for yet knowing …
understanding
because that’s what kindred spirits do.
after gaining composer the receiver began to protest the generous gift as the giver replied, “no, and I will hear no more of it..I want to do something..receive it and say thank you.”
and because she knew her friend and how adamant she was-
she graciously received the gift. & thanked her thoughtful, ridiculously generous friend
thanking her as well for her unwavering friendship now and forever more…
and though the two rarely see each other now because of the different paths they have chosen
they speak and text when they can
sharing with the other the joys and frustrations of life and motherhood..rejoicing together often in the goodness of the Lord who blessed each with not one but two amazing children….in His perfect time
thankful always
and friends forevermore.
