We were gathered round the campfire after a great day at the beach.. Pop, the MawMaw and the cowboy reminiscing about old boy scout camping trips while the littles scavenged around the campsite gathering necessary ingredients..

Leaves, sand, sticks, seashells, sand, water, supper scraps and sand…

Did I mention sand?

When the youngest declared, “SAND SOUP is reeeeeaddy!”  Service with a smile as he diligently scooped each of us a fresh bowl of the concoction.  “It looks delicious.” was the roar from the crowd.  He’d just handed me a bowl and had turned to serve his daddy when he noticed my bowl was empty.

Frantic with eyes the size of a half dollar, “Momma, did you eat that.?!!”

(He’d missed the wa-lah trick behind my back)

“Was I not supposed to???”

He gasped and without words quickly scanned the others to see if they had eaten theirs.  Their bowls were full.  No words were spoken. He stood before me, paused and then asked, “did you not know there were leaves in there momma?”

“Is that what that was that jabbed the roof of my mouth?”

Panic-stricken he threw his arms around my neck & kissed me on the check as if were a farewell kiss.  Bless.

Next, I did what all good mommas would have done…I released a burst of laughter so hard that I almost wet my pants.

“Moommmmaa! YOU KNOW if you eat that you will DIE!”

Poor little fella-thought he’d done poisoned his momma.

This story came to mind tonight during our family devotion as we read Mark 10:15

15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Kids keep it simple.  Parents speak it-they believe.  If we say we ate sand soup-they believe we ate sand soup.  If we believe in the tooth fairy-they believe in the tooth fairy.

Children are sincere.  Eager to believe.  Trusting.

As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ I am to do the same.  If He says it’s so-I am to believe.  Not doubt.  But believe in Him, His truths, His might.

Father my heart wrestles like the man who cried in Mark 9:24.. “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!”  When I’m tempted to doubt Lord -remind me..You are able.  You are good.  Amen

g’night y’all
